Many viewers objected to the title, especially the use of Pandat, which seemed to be an attack on the Pandit community when combined with ghooskhor, a term often used to describe people who accept bribes. In the midst of the controversy, Neeraj Pandey released a statement outlining his intentions for the film.

“Our film is a fictional cop drama, and the term ‘Pandat’ is simply used as a colloquial name for a fictional character,” Neeraj Pandey stated in his statement. The narrative does not address or represent any caste, religion, or community; instead, it focuses on a single person’s decisions and actions. I approach my work as a filmmaker with a strong sense of duty to tell stories that are considerate and kind.

Neeraj Pandey in his explanation said, “The term ‘Pandat’ is simply used as a common title for a fictional character, and our film is a fictional cop drama.”. Instead of addressing or representing any caste, religion, or community, the story concentrates on the choices and deeds of a single individual. As a filmmaker, I take my responsibility to tell stories that are thoughtful and compassionate very seriously.

In the wake of the controversy, Pandey revealed that the team has decided to pull down all promotions. “In light of these concerns, we have decided to take down all promotional materials for the time being, as we believe the film should be experienced in its entirety and understood in the context of the story we intended to tell, rather than judged on partial glimpses. We look forward to sharing the film with audiences soon,” his note read.

Shortly after the proposal was announced, the Film Makers Combine issued the notice. The teaser was released earlier this week during a Mumbai event. The organization claims that the manufacturers did not obtain the clearance required by industry regulations for the title. In Ghooskhor Pandat, Manoj Bajpayee portrays “Pandat,” a corrupt and morally repugnant police officer played by Ajay Dikshit. Nushrat Bharuccha and Saqib Saleem both have significant roles, and the film’s plot revolves around a single night.
