Actor Rajpal Yadav is presently incarcerated in Tihar jail in connection with a check bounce case, as the court found that he did not fulfill his obligation to return the debt. On this Thursday, February 12, a hearing was held to discuss Yadav’s bail request. Bhaskar Upadhyay, his lawyer, has now claimed that half of the money still owed in the actor’s financial insolvency case has already been paid. He clarified that the reason for the request for an adjournment during Thursday’s hearing was that the opposing party must respond to their bail application.
Additionally, Upadhyay stated that he intends to visit Rajpal Yadav in jail to get his guidance on the outstanding payment and to learn about his stance on the subject. He predicts that more precise answers will surface at the upcoming session on Monday.
According to him, “the funds that were invested for that purpose have not been refused access to.”. The business had declined to accept money when it was discussed earlier as well. Three months have already passed since the 2012 agreement was reached, and negotiations are still ongoing. It’s a family matter, so I can’t comment on who gave Rajpal Yadav the money. I’ll personally visit the jail and instruct him on how to proceed. Currently, two and a half crores of the five crores have been awarded; the court will make its decision on Monday.

Case History
The Delhi High Court ordered Rajpal Yadav to surrender in connection with several check bounce cases, for those who are not familiar with the case. In order to make his movie Ata Pata Laapata, the actor borrowed money in 2010, but he never paid it back. Rajpal and his spouse were both given six-month prison terms by a magistrate’s court in 2018.
In 2019, a sessions court upheld the verdict. When the couple later petitioned the Delhi High Court for relief in 2024, the sentence was temporarily revoked on the grounds that they were not repeat offenders, allowing them to pay the debt. But the reimbursement never came to pass. A single-judge bench led by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma subsequently criticized the actor’s actions, pointing out that despite being given numerous chances, he had consistently broken settlement agreements.
