The grand ceremony of the 71st National Film Awards took place at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, where Shah Rukh Khan won his first National Award for his blockbuster film Jawan. 🎉
The Instagram carousel featured Shah Rukh Khan looking dashing in a suit at the award ceremony. Their caption read, "You always said you never win the silver, only lose the gold, but this Silver is Gold... Our hearts are so happy seeing you receive the prestigious National Award. Congratulations, Papa, we love you." Gauri Khan also shared the same image with a loving note: "What a journey it's been @iamsrk. Congratulations on winning the National Award!!! So deserving... It's a result of your years of hard work and dedication. Now I'm designing a special mantle for this award."
Jawan, directed by Atlee, combines a masala-film style with social commentary, tackling pressing issues like unemployment and farmers' suicides in India. Sharing the Best Actor honor with Shah Rukh Khan was Vikrant Massey for his performance in 12th Fail, while Rani Mukerji was awarded Best Actress for her powerful role in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. Meanwhile, legendary actor Mohanlal was recognized with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his lifetime contribution to Indian cinema.
The ceremony began shortly after the arrival of dignitaries, including President Droupadi Murmu, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, director P. Sheshadri, and author Gopalakrishna Pai. The awards celebrated outstanding work from films released in 2023, marking a memorable evening of recognition for excellence in Indian cinema.
